Biography: Born Edward Rudolph Bradley, Bradley was an
American Journalist who was most known from his job on the long-running
television news program CBS 60 minutes. Bradley was born and raised in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His parents
where divorced by the time he was 2 years old and after that he was raised by
his mother who worked 2 jobs just to survive. During the summertime, Bradley was
able to see his father who was a restaurant owner. Bradley attended the St.
Thomas More high school in Philadelphia, which was since closed. After high
school he went on to attend Cheyney State College which has since become
Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. He graduated there in 1964 with a degree in
education.
Bradley's first job was teaching 6th grade at
William B. Mann Elementary School in Philadelphia. While he was teaching during
the day he got a night job at WDAS studios on Edgley Drive. At first he worked
this job for free, but moved up to minimum wage after a while programming
music, reading news, and covered basketball games. With the riots of 1960, Bradley got a full
time job as a reporter with CBS-owned news radio station WCBS. He moved to
Paris in 1971 and began to live off his savings. As he ran out of money, he
started working as a stringer for CBS news. In 1981 he joined the staff of 60
minutes.
Bradley died at age 65 on Thursday November 9, 2006. He died at New York's Mount Sinai Hospital of
leukemia.
