Biography:
Syd Barrett was born early January in
Syd’s musical career began when he joined the band that
was soon to become the well known rock group, Pink Floyd. They went through many name changes such as The Abdabs, and Sigma 6. Once they made
a name for themselves as Pink Floyd they rose to stardom and gradually earned
their way into the spotlight. However, with great power comes great
responsibility, over time Barrett found himself falling into psychedelic drugs
such as LSD. Overtime, Barrett became unpredictable, and his performance
suffered, he was seen at some concerts only strumming one chord, or not even
playing at all. One particular incident where he crushed Mandrax (A sedative
drug) and a full tube of Brylcreem (styling product) into his hair, during the performance
with sweating and such the substance melted down onto his face making it appear
as if it was melting wax, Though the crowd enjoyed these crazy tactics, the
other group members where not so entertained. In march of 1968, Syd Barrett was
no longer a member of Pink Floyd and continued on to do solo work.
Sadly, Syd’s life came to
an end in july of 2006 when Syd died from complications caused by diabetes. A
spokesperson for Pink Floyd told CNN news “He died very peacefully a
couple of days ago. There will be a private family funeral." Though the
legend of Barrett lives on, we can only hope people learn from his mistakes.
