Biography: Born as John William Carson, Carson was an American actor, writer, and comedian. His most well known work was his television show The Late Night Show Starring Johnny Carson.  Carson was born in Corning, Iowa and raised in Nebraska. While in Nebraska, Carson learned a few magic tricks and performed under the name “The Great Carsoni” at age 14. After attending Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi where he received v-12 officer training Carson served in the navy, from 1943 to 1946. For the next few years, Johnny took a few jobs with TV and Radio stations leading to his job on The Tonight Show in 1962. Many people around the American nation started making watching The Tonight Show a evening ritual. The television show had things like interviews, music, comedy sketches and monologues. Starting out pre-recorded, The Late Night Show started doing live shows after a couple years.  Carson was known for finding quick solutions to unexpected problematic situations. Carson's free spirited comedic attitude earned him many fans and his hit show eventually came to the point where it would be two to two and a half hours of uncensored live footage.

            Married four times, Carson was an investor in De Lorean Motor Company and was seen in a drunk driving accident while driving a De Lorean DMC-12 sports car that occurred in Beverly Hills. Carson pleaded no contest to the charges brought against him in the incident and played off it by having a police escort to the Tonight Show stage.  An amateur astronomer himself, Carson often asked his close friend Carl Sagan, an astronomer onto the show to give talks and presentations on astronomy.

            Carson's child from his first marriage was killed in a car accident in 1991.  At the end of his last show, Carson featured a photograph taken by his son. John William Carson died early 2005 from respiratory arrest linked with emphysema, He was 79 years old.
