Ferguson. Walter was playing violin and piano at the young age of four years
old. When Walter was nine, he heard a cornet for the first time, which is
similar to a trumpet. He was in church, dazzled by the sounds coming from this
beautiful brass instrument, Walter asked his parents to buy him a cornet. When
Walter was thirteen he performed his first solo as a child wonder, with many
talents. After this Walter was seen often on CBC and had already begun to make
a name for him.
Walter won a scholarship to French Conservatory of Music. When walter was fifteen he dropped out of Montreal
High School to more actively pursue a music career. Over time, Walter
joined a few jazz bands, and eventually ended up in India getting more
spiruitually attatched. Walter founded a place for young men to play
instruments and learn about music. Walter made his way back to the United
states when his new band made its debut in 1971. Overtime, Maynard's band
gathered 12 members, and succeeded at quite a few things. Maynard proved to be
one of the greats. He passed away in late August 2006, in his California home
when he developed an abdominal infection.
