Biography: This well known actor was born in Senatobia,
Mississippi and is the father of celebrity James Earl Jones. Known most for his
brilliant acting work, Jones has played in over 20 films. After dropping out of
high school and working as a sharecropper, Jones fell into an acting career in
Chicago through stage productions. From there he sort of wandered into film
acting and soon made a name for himself.
His most famous and well known role came about in 1973's
hit move The Sting. In this movie he played an older gentlemen with Robert
Redford. In addition to acting, Jones was a boxer and on the side he ran
marathons. Most of the movies Jones played in where crime movies and mysteries,
though he had his fair share of dramas too. In his late years, Jones played
parts in a few small movies and did some T.V. Work. The last film he played in
was 1992's Rain Without Thunder.
Jones died his home in Englewood, New Jersey. His cause
of death was natural causes at the old age of 102. Though he was blacklisted
sometime during the 1950's by House Un-American Activities committee, he still
managed to make a success of himself and was given a lifetime achievement award
by the United States Black Theater Festival.
