Biography: This American play writer, essayist, and author
was born and raised in New York. Being a foremost figure in American literature
and movie production Arthur was raised by his father who owned a
coat-manufacturing business. After the Wall Street crash of 1929 his fathers
business died and his family suffered greatly from the depression. After high
school he had a hard time attending a university because of his parents money
issues, however Arthur stepped up and got a few dull jobs to pay for his own
college tuition and attended the University of Michigan and majored in
journalism. In 1938 Arthur added a bachelors degree in English to his education
and it paid of when he won multiple Avery Hopewood Awards later on in life. In
1956 he divorced his wife of sixteen years, Mary Slattery and a month later
married Marylin Monroe who he'd had an affair with in 1951. Arthur's legacy as
a writer lasted over six decades and when he died in 2005 he was known to be
one of the strongest dramatists of the 20th century.
Arthur passed on in four months after his brother Kermit
Miller in early February, year 2005 which actually was the 56th
anniversary of Death of a Salesman, a production written by Arthur. The cause
of death was congestive heart failure. Arthur was surrounded by family at his
time of death.
