in Teaneck, New Jersey Dana was known for being the wife
of Christopher Reeve and for being an activist to disability causes. She was
raised in Greenburgh, New York. In 1979, she graduated from Edgemont High School and went on to study English
Lit and acting during her college
career. She married husband Christopher Reeve in April of 1992, and they had
their first child William Reeve in June of 1992. After her husband became quadriplegic
as a result of a horse riding accident in 1995, Dana became a motivational
speaker and activist for the paralyzed, and after her husband’s death, an
advocate of human stem cell research. Dana was quoted saying "I still have my soft spot for the
quality-of-life grant programs and for the resource center, because it’s really
the people part. Chris used to be the visionary who went to Washington to lobby for funding, and I was
the one who figured out, 'Is there a wheelchair ramp so that our family can get
into this movie theater?' I thought if that’s hard for me, it’s got to be much
harder for the majority of people out there." After that it became aparent
that she was more concerned about care than cure. In 1996 Dana founded the
Christopher Reeves foundation which helps fund research to make the lifes of
disabled people more comfortable. In august of 2005, Reeve had been diagnosed
with lung cancer. She passed away in march of 2006.
