Biography: Born in San Francisco, California, Casper was the son of the well known lawyer Herman Weinberger. Casper was Secretary of Defense under President Ronald Reagan, and an American politician. His parents where immigrants, from England and Casper was raised Episcopalian. In 1983 Casper received is B.A. degree and in 1941 he continued and on received his J.D. (Juris Doctor) degree. Both degree’s from Harvard University. In 1941, Casper entered into the Army as a private, at the end of the war he was a captain on General Douglas MacArthur's intelligence staff. From 1945 to 1947 Casper worked as a law clerk for a federal judge, after this he joined a law firm. In 1952, Casper won an election to the California State Assembly, and was reelected in 1954 and 1956. After being Secretary of Defense for well over six years, and having been for longer than any of his ancestors except for Robert McNamara, Casper left the pentagon and joined Forbes Inc. as a publisher of the magazine Forbes Magazine.  In 1993, Casper was named chairman of the magazine and spent over the next decade writing regularly on defense and national security. Casper co-authored a book called The Next War in 1996. After this book was published, people questioned the military and its accuracy, and Casper lost many of his political connections. Casper passed away in late march when he was 88 from complications caused by pneumonia. After, George W. Bush was quoted saying “This good man made many contributions to our Nation. America is grateful for Caspar Weinberger's lifetime of service. Laura and I send our condolences and prayers to the entire Weinberger family." As well as a few other kind words.
